Antique postcard from the private collection of Valerie Mockaitis. Published by The Rotograph Co., N. Y. City, Copyright 1905. Printed in Germany.

The artist added the very popular sunset colors behind the capitol. There aren't any people or vehicles added, which other publishers might have wanted.

Best known as Old Colony House, this building still stands and is managed by the Newport Historical Society. It was built between 1736 and 1739 to replace an existing courthouse and was one of five rotating Rhode Island State Houses. After 1853, this courthouse and the one in Providence were still used as state houses until the new Providence capitol was completed.

The Old State House, Known as the Independence Hall of Providence
Sepia postcard reproduced from a photograph.

This was one of the five Rhode Island county courthouses that were rotating state houses. Originally built from 1759 to 1771, this view shows the tower added with the 1850 remodeling. The state house still stands, and is now the home of the Rhode Island Historical Preservation and Heritage Commission.

The Rhode Island State Capitol.
Providence, R. I.

Antique postcard published circa 1905 by Raphael Tuck & Sons. Printed in England.

This is one of a series of postcards of all 45 state capitols of the time. They were sold as a set, and each had the state seal medallion and generous, artistic embellishments to the scene like the colorful sky and numerous pedestrians shown here.

"Violet" Rhode Island State Flower.
State Capitol, Providence Rhode Island.

Antique postcard. Copyright 1909 by F. A. Moss.

The verse reads:

Rhode Island good and true,
Our fond hearts cling to you,
You are as pure as morning dew
And fair as your own violet blue.

New State Capitol. Providence, R. I.
Antique postcard published by Souvenir Post Card Co. Postmarked 1906.

Sometimes the unembellished, black-and-white views are refreshing, like this one. This card does not show the dome as green. The angle of the photograph is so similar to the one used for the Tuck above, they were likely either taken from the same vantage point, or the two cards were created from the same photograph.
